Taiwan Day 2 (14 Dec Taipei -> Taichung)

It's 9.25pm now, I'm eating 甜汤 in room at Taichung's hotel and blogging at the same time haha!!

Ok, rewind.. We woke up early this morning.. like the usual time we get up for work haha! Perhaps we were too excited to start our journey. We were out hunting for breakfast by 8am. These were what we had, at the balcony of CityInn.

Then we checked out and heads towards Taipei Main Station to buy the round-island railway tickets. For NT,1706 per pax, we are allowed to make 7 trips on board the Tze Chiang train. All journey has to be completed within 15 days.

While waiting for train, I bought a latte from the 7-11 shop within the station. NT30 for one cup. Half price for the 2nd cup (some 1000th shop anniversary thinggi..)

Tze Chiang train is the fastest after the Taiwan High Speed Rail. The others are Juguang and Fuxing, which will still bring you to your desired destinations but take longer as they stop at more places. The journey from Taipei to Taichung by Tze Chiang took us about 2.5hours.

There we are, at Taichung Railway Station. Toilet-seat seats. Nice or not? Hahha!!! Quite sunny when we reached Taichung about 2+pm. Good!

We stayed at this budget hotel called Zaw-Jung Business Hotel http://www.zaw-jung.com/, which is just right across the Taichung Railway Station (by rear entrance). We'll be here for 2 nights - NT1,280 per night, including breakfast which apparently will be served in room. I don't know what it will be like, so will blog about it tomorrow. I must say it's quite a spacious room but not as chic as CityInn, in fact, quite far from it hahaha!! Zaw Jung looks rather old from the external facade. But, for S$60 equivalent, can't complain much lah hahah!!

We asked the receptionist if there was any specialty dish in Taichung. She directed us to a nearby shop name 台中肉员 (nope, I didn't write the "员" wrongly, this was exactly how it is written on the signboard). They sell meatball. Very unique, not like any we have eaten before. We didn't even know what it was when served, thought it was some yam dessert haha!! So we confirmed with a lady at the next table haha! Anyway, it was quite yummy ;)

Then, we headed towards the train station to take a bus to its famous 逢甲夜市 (apparently largest in Taiwan). We took a bus by 仁友客运 to the night market - NT26 per pax one-way - about 30min away. So, food hunting again... very big & vibrant place! We just ate and walked around. Didn't buy anything yet since this is only the start of our trip! Didn't take pictures of the different types of food we had, too busy haha! The prawns were still alive when they were put to grill hehehe....

We'll be making a day trip to Sun Moon Lake tomorrow. So, that's all for today ;)

Actually the 7 trips are only about just nice according to the places we will be putting up in but if we decide to do day trips, then not sufficient loh. Not like the Eurail Pass one which allows limitless number of travel hehe..

Anyway, yes, the breakfast was indeed 2 sandwiches and 2 packets of drinks hahah!! The bread was not bad but I didn't like the milk tea ;(

About the Vietnam cafe.. errr.. Paya Lebar MRT very far lah hahaha!! But ok, will try when we have the chance! Thanks!
